Season Reopened with New Panoramic Carriages!
After the usual winter break, on Saturday, February 15, the Monte Brè Funicular kicked off a season full of excitement and new features. The main stars were the new panoramic carriages, now offering passengers an unparalleled view of the Gulf of Lugano stretching to Monte Rosa and the surrounding Alps.
The big day was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the inaugural trip of the new carriages on the morning of February 15 in Suvigliana, in the presence of municipal and cantonal political authorities. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the carriages officially entered service, ready to welcome passengers eager to explore the sunniest mountain in Switzerland.
The new carriages have replaced the historic ones, which, after 40 years of service, covered over 1,200,000 kilometers, demonstrating a long tradition of reliability and connection with the region. With a design that pays homage to the past, these modern panoramic carriages look to the future, offering a safer and more accessible travel experience. The large windows and panoramic roof allow passengers to enjoy a 360° view of Lugano and the surrounding Alpine peaks.
The new carriages will soon be fully accessible to people with mobility impairments, thanks to ongoing modernization work carried out by our technicians and engineers to bring the stations up to the standards of the Disability Law (LDis).
